SIZE GUIDE FOR TRAVEL BAGS
Is it time to buy a suitcase or cabin bag for your next trip? This is a guide that we hope will answer all your questions about suitcase and cabin bag sizes!
The selection of suitcases is gigantic and it can be difficult to know which one to invest in. But if you know how big a suitcase you need, you've come a long way. Depending on the purpose, everything from a flexible backpack to a large suitcase with a volume of over 120 liters can be right for you.
HOW MANY CHANGES DO YOU NEED TO HAVE SPACE FOR?
It is usually clothes that take up the most space in a suitcase. How many changes you need to be able to carry with you is thus an important question. That, in turn, is a question that depends on how long you will be away, what you will be doing at the destination and what kind of climate it is. The colder it is, the more space the clothes will take up in the pack.
It is usually said that a substantial cabin bag is enough if you are only going to be away for a few days. A normal-sized suitcase is sufficient if you are going to be away for up to a week. Longer trips may require both a large suitcase and a cabin bag. But of course these are very approximate guidelines. There are those who can travel the world with carry-on luggage and others who prefer large bags with room for everything they might need.
The fact that you may need to have suitcases in different sizes depending on where you are going is one of the reasons why there are so many sizes and models to choose from. The choice of suitcase is not only about how many liters you can fit, but it is also important that it has the right functions and that it protects your pack in a good way.
IS YOUR SUITCASE THE RIGHT SIZE?
If you are going to fly, it is incredibly important that your suitcase is not too big. Different airlines have different rules for which measurements apply. It is simply something you have to check if you have a larger suitcase model and are unsure whether it is allowed. You may need to check the dimensions of your suitcase and match them with the information provided by the airline. Measure from the floor to the handle to allow for any wheels. The handle must not be folded out if it is a telescopic model. When you buy a suitcase, it is the outer dimensions that are given in the product description, which is good because these are also the dimensions that apply to the airlines.
To calculate the volume of a suitcase, open it and measure its height, depth and width, edge to edge. Multiply the values you get. The volume is simply a measure of how much you can fit in theory. How much you can fit in reality depends a lot on your packing technique.

TIPS IF YOUR SUITCASE IS TOO SMALL
It is not uncommon to realize that everything you want to take with you simply cannot fit in your bags. Especially when you travel home and have bought nice things, it can become really critical. This is especially true if you do not have the opportunity to add an extra piece of luggage on the return journey. Here are some tips on what you can do if you really can't fit everything: Do not pack a blazer or jacket in your bag, but wear it when you check in, also keep things in your pockets. Have the most bulky shoes on your feet. Use the bag for personal items to the maximum and keep heavy electronics in it, instead of in your carry-on. Leave half-empty shampoo bottles and other things that take up too much space in relation to their value. Bite the sour apple and pay for extra kilos or an extra bag, if possible. |
